Vinfen is pleased to announce that Program Director of Family Support Services Sethany Griffin has been appointed by Governor Baker as a citizen member of the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council (MDDC). In this role, Ms. Griffin hopes to continue her advocacy efforts for disability services and supports throughout the Commonwealth.
Funded by the federal government, the MDDC is an independent agency that works to provide opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to enhance independence, productivity, and inclusion. MDDC’s mission is to empower individuals with disabilities so they can ultimately lead successful lives within their communities.
MDDC Executive Director Daniel Shannon said, “Sethany will be a great addition to our Council. Her tireless efforts on behalf of her son and others show her commitment to disability advocacy, and she will serve the Council well.”
Ms. Griffin has worked at Vinfen for 13 years and within the human services field for a total of 35 years. She is a mother to an individual with autism who also has an intellectual and developmental disability and experiences mental health challenges. Ms. Griffin has dedicated her life to advocating for her son and believes in the power of sharing her story to help others create positive change.
“I am honored to have been appointed to the MDDC, and I am incredibly humbled to be able to work side by side with other disability self-advocates who are not willing to sit on the sidelines and wait for change to come. Positive change is coming, and it is long overdue,” Ms. Griffin shared.
Vinfen is so fortunate to have staff like Ms. Griffin who work tirelessly to advocate for the people we serve and for the disability community. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Griffin on this tremendous honor!
